Academia Brasileira de Ciências (ABC) as a Key Partner
In Brazil, the Leopoldina works primarily with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (Academia Brasileira de Ciências, ABC). The main areas of cooperation are bilateral science-for-policy workshops on global sustainability issues and the support of early-career researchers.
Science-for-Policy Workshop Series
A key focus of the cooperation is the Science-for-Policy workshop series Water and Regional Development, which was launched in 2013/2014 and has continued ever since.
The workshops take place in lecture theatres, laboratories and in the field, and provide a platform for scientific exchange between established and early-career researchers working on natural resources, particularly water, mining and regional development. They address research trends as well as broader socio-political interdependencies.

The outcomes of the workshops are brought together in science-for-policy reports and virtual panels in order to achieve cross-border reach. Selected findings have, among other venues, been presented at the United Nations in New York.
