Greve Prize 2024
Dealing with metastases is one of the biggest challenges in cancer therapy. More than 90 % of cancer deaths are due to metastatic progression. In order to develop new therapeutic approaches, it is important to understand the conditions under which cancer forms metastases and how they move through the body. Biophysics can provide valuable insights into this, as cancer is also subject to the laws of physics. Medical scientist Bahriye Aktas and biophysicists Jochen Guck and Josef Käs were awarded the 2024 Greve Prize of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina for their fundamental findings on the mobility of tumour cells.
