Research
Hermann Wagner studies immune based mechanisms of resistance to infectious diseases. During his period in Mainz with Prof. P. Klein (1973 – 1983) he analyzed in vitro T-T cell cooperation during the induction of cytolytic T cells. In Ulm (1983 – 1989) he focussed on the immunobiology of bacterial superantigens. In Munich (since 1989) he contributed seminal work to our current understanding of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) through which cells of the innate immune system recognise invariant structures of pathogens.
