Research
Joachim Grifka is chair of the Orthopaedic Department University Regensburg and director of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Bad Abbach. A focus of his scientific and clinical work are spine diseases and joint preserving and techniques joint replacment procedures as well as cartilage research.
In 2001 he started to establish navigation technique for the precise positioning of joint implants, achieving an optimised load distribution, range of motion and ligament tension. This led internationally to a break-through of this technique. For his scientific development and the clinical work he received special honours, like Honorary Member of the Knee and Orthopedic Sports Medicine Section of the Western Pacific Orthopedic Association, Membro Honorario Sociedad Latinoamericana de Orthopedia y Traumatologia Federacion, honorary doctorate University Dniepropetrovsk / Ukraine and distinctions like an Innovation Award of German Federal Ministry of Research and Technology for further improvement of navigation technique in knee joint replacement.
