Professor Dr Jörg Bendix

Jörg Bendix made substantial contributions particularly to the fields of satellite climatology and geoecology of tropical high mountains. The improvement and development of rain and, for the first time, ground fog retrieval schemes based on satellite data offered the possibility to provide spatio-temporal climate data sets as e.g. the first satellite-based fog map of the Po Valley. This data sets are also used in geoecological research. Based on the preferred method combination of in-situ measurements, remote sensing and numerical modelling he could scientifically prove a specific mesoscale process of rainfall formation at the eastern tropical Andes due to lowland-highland interactions for the first time.
Recent research activities are focused on integrative biodiversity research in tropical hotspots, particularly on the objective how climate extreme events as El Niño as well as climate and landuse change may affect ecosystem services. For this purpose, he conducts and participates on several integrative research projects, mainly in South America.
