Research
Johanna Plendl is veterinarian and head of the Institute for Veterinary Anatomy at the Freie Universität Berlin. Her major research interests include the cellular and molecular regulation of blood vessel development, i.e., angiogenesis and vasculogenesis as well as the establishment of in vitro models of angiogenesis and anti-angiogenesis based on the morphological profiling of the angiogenic and vasculogenic cascade.
She isolated and characterized microvascular endothelial cells of different organs and species including transformed endothelial cells as well as endothelial progenitor cells. A focus of her teaching lies on the introduction of novel methods such as peer-assisted learning, the creation of student expert teams and e-learning.
