Research
As a computational biologist Martin Vingron works on aiding biological research, in particular genome research, by developing mathematical and computational tools for its support. Vingron developed discrete methods for sequence analysis and comparison. He worked on molecular evolution and on stochastic methods for determining the statistical significance of results produced by bioinformatics algorithms. More recently, he focused on data analysis in functional genomics and was a co-developer of the widely used variance stabilization method for normalization of gene expression data.
