Thus, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina introduces a special fellowship, the „Leopoldina Ukraine Distinguished Fellowship“, for scientists from Ukraine who have their careers in science endangered or interrupted by the war to resume or continue their research activities, and remain in academia. The funding is person-related and designed for outstanding post-doctoral level scientists from Ukraine to work on an independent research project at a university or research institution in Germany for an initial period of one year, while maintaining their affiliation at a Ukrainian institution. Applications are accepted starting from 20 July 2022. There are no application deadlines. Please see the call for application in the info box.
In addition, the Leopoldina is involved in the “Ukraine Science, Research and Innovation Coordinating Group” together with the national academies of Poland, the United States, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Denmark as well as the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities ALLEA. The group has put up a 10-point plan for supporting and rebuilding Ukrainian science.
In the framework of this cooperation, the Leopoldina is co-funding a special programme of the Polish Academy of Sciences together with the United States National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The programme funds visiting fellowships of researchers from Ukraine at units of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Currently, this programme is only available in the form of extension of funding for already funded fellowship holders (more than 300 persons).
