In November 2019, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina will hold a workshop on “Computational Archaeology” in Jerusalem. Over the last generation, archaeology has increasingly turned to the exact sciences and the natural sciences, including the use of methods from mathematics and computer science. The conference will reflect the achievements of research in this field in Israel and Germany. It will present research in areas such as art typologies, text analysis, documentation of findings, computational approaches to problems in chronology and artificial intelligence approaches in archaeology.
The scientific coordinator on the side of the Leopoldina is Professor Reinhard Förtsch, German Archaeological Institute (Deutsches Archäologisches Institut – DAI) in Berlin. Scientific coordinator on the Israeli side is Professor Israel Finkelstein of Tel Aviv University.
