The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the oldest, continuously existing science academy in the world, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the biggest and financially strongest academy in Asia, have joined forces to stage the conference series “Science for Future”. Under this title, both academies will regularly conduct high-level conferences in China and Germany. The series aims at highlighting the value of curiosity-driven science that explores the edges of knowledge and thus is the true driver of innovation. The Science for Future-Conferences will also be a meeting and presentation place for excellent junior scientists from both countries in order to further scientific cooperation between China and Germany.

The inaugural conference “Science for Future: All Starts with Basic Research” will take place on 8-10 Sept 2019 at the Yanqihu-Campus of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) close to Beijing. The conference takes a broad thematic approach to showcase excellence in various fields of science, bringing together internationally renowned scientists with young researchers from China and Germany. To underline the importance of cutting-edge, curiosity-driven research for the advancement of science and society, the two academies will sign The Beijing Declaration on Basic Science.
