- 3D Printing
- Industry 4.0
Additive manufacturing is a young, dynamic field of technological development that has become popular with the introduction of 3D printers. Materials are applied layer by layer, creating objects with previously unattainable variable shapes and intricate internal structures. This technology could profoundly change the development and manufacture of numerous products for industry, medicine, and private use. In their statement “Additive Manufacturing – Developments, Opportunities, and Challenges,” the science academies describe the medium- and long-term potential of the technology, necessary research and development tasks, and options for action for society in dealing with the possibilities offered by these processes. The paper supplements a statement on the topic published by the science academies in 2017.
