This document was adopted in 2019 by the 5th Joint Science Conference of the Berlin Process in London. The conference was organised together by the Leopoldina and UK’s Royal Society under the 2019 Polish Presidency of the Berlin Process.
The Joint Statement identifies three key recommendations:
- Install national scientific advice mechanisms where missing, and include scientific expertise in the co-design of public policies and societal dialogue;
- Endorse actions of academic-scientific cooperation, which contribute to reconciliation and good neighbourly relations in SEE, underlining the societal responsibility of science;
- Support measures to improve science communication in the digital era and to raise awareness for the societal and economic importance of education, science, R&I.
