Research
Christian Kurts has made fundamental contributions to various areas of immunology. In Melbourne, Australia, he described in 1996 the mechanism of cross-presentation that is important for inducing an immunity against viruses and tumors.
Since 2009 he has been director of the Institute of Experimental Immunology at the University of Bonn. Besides his basic scientific interests, he studies the mechanisms of immune-mediated diseases of various organs, especially the kidney, and he develops vaccination strategies. His goal is the identification of regulatory options to promote desired immune responses and to inhibit undesirable ones.
In 2012 he was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the DFG for his work.
