The International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies supports repressed scientists worldwide. Since 2003 the Human Rights Committee of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina is a member of this network.

The International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies organises meetings with representatives of academies and scholarly societies every two years to discuss cases of supression in science and strategies of external influence. This year, the Leopoldina and its Human Rights Committee host the event for the first time. During the meeting Nobel Laureate Sir Richard Roberts will present his personal view on the topic "Human Rights and Science". Further lectures and discussions will deal with science and human rights in Turkey and Tunesia.
