More information
Informatics (Computer Science) has changed the world and will continue to change it. Information technology affects all aspects of our lives; how we communicate, work, search, play, produce, manage, etc. The usefulness of informatics sometimes obscures its scientific depth, beauty, and fascination.
The speaker will talk about his fascination for informatics. He will do so under the headings: (1) Early Fascination, (2) Computation and Laws of Computation, (3) A Mathematician in the Morning, an Engineer in the Afternoon, (4) Connections to Other Fields, and (5) Future.
Informatics was introduced in Germany as a field of study in 1968. The speaker started university studies (Mathematics and Physics) in 1968, and a friend convinced him to also attend the course “Einführung in die Informatik (Introduction to Computer Science)”.
