Autonomy is a multifaceted concept that plays a crucial role in various fields of research, including social, biological, health and life sciences, technology, artificial intelligence, philosophy and physics. Concepts of autonomy have implications for individual behaviour, technology, economic markets, social structures and public policy design. This complex interaction between autonomy and societal constraints is the theme of this year's Leopoldina Annual Meeting.
By integrating perspectives from the Academy's various disciplines, the aim is to promote a comprehensive understanding of autonomy and its implications.
Prof. Dr Alexandra Freund, Prof. Dr Bernhard Hommel and Wilhelm Hofmann from the Psychology and Cognitive Sciences Section have taken on the scientific coordination of the 2026 Annual Assembly.
