Prof. Dr. Boris A. Lapin (✝︎)

Boris A. Lapin’s main area of research interest is focused on medical primatology, comparative pathology, space biology and medicine, oncovirology. Comparative study of spontaneous infections and somatic diseases developing in monkeys in captivity and in their natural habitat allowed him to establish a research basis for modeling human disease in monkeys. In oncovirology Boris Lapin obtained a unique monkey model of hemoblastosis. He proved the possibility of virus shedding into the surrounding and horizontal spreading of the disease in monkeys. Boris A. Lapin initiated using monkeys for solving important problems of space medicine and biology. He took an active part in the programs of Biosatellites and Russian-American Space Program “Bion”.
