Prof. Dr. Daniel van Steenberghe

Daniel van Steenberghe is distinguished for many contributions in oral surgery and oral pathology.  The majority of his work took place at the the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium where his research was devoted in particular to oral neurophysiology and osseointegration of implants.  He made substantial contributions to a better understanding of osseoperception and the electromyography of jaw muscles.  He also investigated  the local intra-oral delivery of antimicrobials, the epidemiology of halitosis and the effect of local and systemic diseases on the fate of oral implants.  He (co)founded and became the first president of the European Association of Osseointegration and the International Society for Breath Odor Research.
