In den letzten 30 Jahren haben Clostridium difficile-Infektionen ständig
zugenommen. Darüberhinaus hat sich das Spektrum der C. difficile-Infektion von einer Antibiotikum-assoziierten Diarrhoe zu einer lebensbedrohlichen fulminanten pseudomembranösen Colitis und Sepsis entwickelt. Es ist deshalb nicht verwunderlich, dass alle Anstrengungen gemacht werden, die Diagnostik zu verbessern, die Epidemiologie der Erkrankung besser zu erfassen, die Virulenzfaktoren der Erreger besser zu erforschen und die verschiedenen therapeutischen Möglichkeiten zu optimieren.
Wegen der erheblichen Beeinträchtigung durch diese Infektionserkrankung hat die Internationale Gesellschaft für Chemotherapie diese internationale Konferenz einberufen, um einen intensiven wissenschaftlichen Gedankenaustausch zu ermöglichen.
It appears that during the past 30 years, the incidence of Clostridium difficile
infections has continuously risen world-wide. Moreover, the spectrum of C.
difficile infection has evolved from antibiotic associated diarrhoea to lifethreatening fulminant pseudo-membranous colitis and sepsis. Thus it is not
surprising that considerable efforts were made to improve diagnostic
procedures, to clarify the epidemiology of the disease, to elucidate the
virulence factors associated with this micro-organism, and to study the
various therapeutic options in the treatment of the patients.
Because of the significant burden of the disease, the International Society of
Chemotherapy has decided to offer a forum to discuss the current
knowledge in C. difficile infection.
