The National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina has managed to restore and digitize about 160 magnetic audio tapes from its archive. Unique and vulnerable audio recordings dating from 1959 to 1991 could therefore be preserved.
They contain speeches given by renowned scientists, who attended events at the Leopoldina in Halle during that period. Among them are eleven tapes with speeches by the Leopoldina member Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker. The entire inventory of magnetic audio tapes of the Leopoldina, comprising 395 hours of audio recordings altogether, is available for research in form of digital files.
The digitized audio documents may be used in the Leopoldina archive. Selected audio examples below give a first impression of the material (all in German language).
