Cooperations

Konrad Adenauer Foundation

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) is a political foundation affiliated with the Christian Democratic Union Party of Germany (CDU). Its tasks include political education, promotion of European unification, intensification of transatlantic relations, and development of policy cooperation. Since 2017, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina has been cooperating with the Konrad Adenauer Foun-dation on the topic of reproductive medicine.

Within this framework, the workshop “Plannable Pregnancy - Perfect Child?” took place in 2017, which led to the 2019 discussion paper “Plannable Pregnancy - Perfect Child? Interactions of medicine and society”. December 2020 marked the thirtieth anniversary of the adoption of the Embryo Protection Act. Given the developments in medicine and biomedical research and the diversity of today's family forms, the question arises whether the legal regulations are still up to date. To mark this occasion, the Leopoldina and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized the joint discussion event “30 Years of the Embryo Protection Act” in 2021, which focused on medical progress, social change and the need for political action.
