Die Junge Akademie was founded in 2000 upon the initiative of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW). Its mission is to promote outstanding young academics.
The thematic focus of Die Junge Akademie is on encouraging academic, especially interdisciplinary, discourse among outstanding young academics as well as promoting initiatives at the intersection of academia and society. The membership number is limited to 50. Each member will be elected once for a five-year term.
