InterAcademy Partnership (IAP)

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) is the global network of academies. Founded in 2016 through the merger of three previous networks, it now brings together more than 140 academies of science, medicine and technology with a total membership of more than 30,000 scientists. The focus of IAP is on strengthening academies as actors in science-based advice for politics and society at the national, regional and global level.

As a worldwide network, IAP aims to strengthen the cooperation between the academies of science, medicine and technology. The expertise of these academies forms the basis for the development of evidence-based statements and reports on issues of global importance. With its scientific recommendations, IAP provides independent advice to governments and international organisations such as the United Nations on, among other things, the achievement of important global development goals.

An important pillar for IAP’s work are its four regional networks in Africa (NASAC), the Americas (IANAS), Asia (AASSA) and Europe (EASAC). They enable IAP to address both issues of global relevance and scientific questions of regional importance.

The IAP office is located in Trieste, Italy. There is also a liaison office in Washington DC, USA. The Leopoldina is a founding member of IAP.
