Synapses as sensors of environmental changes and molecular dysfunction

More 'Synapses as sensors of environmental changes and molecular dysfunction'

Symposium of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Memoriam of Michael Frotscher

Date: Tuesday, 10 October 2017
Time: 11:45 to 13:15
Location: CityCube, Raum M2/M3, Messedamm 26, 14055 Berlin

The Communication of the brain with the environment is based on an optimal interconnection of its circuities within and among them. This is based on a myelin-associated macro-connectivity as well as on a synaptic based micro-connectivity. By focussing on synaptic connectivity this symposium bridges genetic principles, the outline of synaptic processes by imaging techniques and neuroanatomic correlates. To experimentally modulate synaptic connectivity in humans, rTMS is paradigmatically chosen here.

Speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Nils Brose, Göttingen: „Synaptic defects in autism spectrum disorders – focus on neuroligins at inhibitory synapses”
  • Prof. Dr. Dietmar Schmitz, Berlin: „Synaptic autoimmunity in neuropsychiatric diseases”
  • Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Vlachos, Dusseldorf: „Releasing the cortical synaptic brake? rTMS-induced synaptic plasticity”

Chair: Prof. Dr. med. Gabriele Rune, Hamburg
Co-Chair: Prof. Dr. med. Peter Falkai, Munich
