Albrecht Pietsch was from 1965 to 1999 professor of mathematics at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. He is a functional analyst. His research activities are focused on the theory of operator ideals (absolutely summing
operators, s-numbers, traces, determinants, eigenvalue distributions,
and nuclear locally convex spaces). Besides 6 research monographs he wrote a comprehensive old-age treatise "History of Banach Spaces and Linear Operators" (2007).
