Eberhard Schäfer's research is contracted since more than 35 years on the regulation of plant development by light and the signaltransduction mechanism. The research areas are in vivo spectroscopy, action spectroscopy, modelling and cell biology. This work was performed at the institute for biology II, chair of botany since 1995 – in sucession of his teacher Hans Mohr. The analysis of light dependent nuclear import of the plant photoreceptors, phytochromes, led to a paradigm change in photomorphologenesis research.
