Since 1992, Prof. Dr. med Florian Lang has been chairman of the Department of Physiology, University of Tübingen. Florian Lang has published over 700 papers on properties and regulation of ion channels and transporters as well as the role of transport in the regulation of cell metabolism, cell volume, cell proliferation, cell death, tumour growth, diabetes, host pathogen interaction and cardiac action potential. Together with his collaborators and colleagues he discovered the role of cell volume and cell volume regulatory transport in the regulation of metabolism, cell proliferation and apoptosis. Moreover, he identified the role of suicidal host cell death as a defense mechanism against intracellular pathogens.
