Günter M. Ziegler's work treats algebraic and topological methods in combinatorics, optimization problems, and discrete geometry, in particular the theory of polyhedra.
In particular he has contributed a number of studies on four-dimensional geometry, where he achieved some remarkable geometric constructions that solved a number of longstanding problems and refuted some prominent conjectures. At the same time Ziegler is actively working on a multi-facetted and lively representation of mathematics in the public. He was one of the initiators of the German "Year of Mathematics" 2008. With Martin Aigner he wrote "Proofs from THE BOOK", which is available in 13 different languages.
Recent books: "Do I count? Stories from Mathematics" (CRC Press 2013) and "Mathematik - Das ist doch keine Kunst!" (in German: Knaus, 2013)
