Research Priorities: air quality assessments, atmospheric transport processes, circular economy
Nicolas Moussiopoulos’ work addresses several issues in the fields where energy use is interrelated with impacts on the environment. His research focuses primarily on air pollution and climate change, with various contributions in the development of atmospheric wind and dispersion/chemistry models and their application at the local-to-regional scale for air quality assessments and other regulatory purposes.
Nicolas Moussiopoulos is internationally reputed for his research in the field of air pollution control. He coordinated the development of appropriate mathematical model systems to describe the dispersion of air pollutants in the atmosphere. These model systems have been successfully used to describe atmospheric transport and transformation processes as well as in air quality assessments for many European cities. Based on such assessments, air quality strategies are optimised and, if necessary, action plans are developed.
Nicolas Moussiopoulos also developed efficient methods for describing cross-scale processes and participated in the development of innovative procedures for validating mathematical models. He has also been involved in studies related to circular economy, waste management, environmental impact assessment and management, life cycle analysis and integrated product policy.
