His research group solved of the nucleosome core structure at 2.8 Å in 1997 and extended it to 1.9 Å in 2002. His laboratory has also determined the crystal structures of a variety of eukaryotic gene regulatory factors in complex with DNA. Currently his group is investigating the structure of the chromatin fiber, chromatin remodeling complexes involved in gene regulation, and transcription activation and initiation assemblies.
