The science academies of the G7 states, among them the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, handed over three joint statements to the Italian government today in Rome. The documents were developed at this year’s conference of the academies in March and presented today at the Accademie dei Lincei (National Academey of Sciences Italy) in preparation of the G7 Summit in Italy in May 2017.

The science academies of the G7 and G20 countries are advising heads of state and government for the annual summits for more than ten years. Before each summit, the academies look at urgent issues relating to the summit agenda that also carry wider implications and require a multilateral approach. In this year, the summit of the G7 states takes place on May 26 and 27 in Taormina, Italy.

The joint statements of the G7 Science Conference 2017:

  • Cultural heritage: building resilience to natural disasters
  • The challenge of neurodegenerative diseases in an aging population
  • New economic growth: the role of science, technology, innovation and infrastructure
