The German National Academy Leopoldina launches new website

The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina has just launched its new website, which is tailored to fulfil the Academy’s role of advising national and international policy. The relaunch at www.leopoldina.org offers scientists, journalists, political and social representatives, as well as members of the public interested in science and the Leopoldina, a wealth of new content and functions.

The Leopoldina website has been entirely restructured and is divided into nine sections: About us, Members, Science, Publications, Policy Advice, International Issues, Fellowship Programme, Events, and an expanded Press Section, where different user groups can read and download all the information they need. The new website is much easier to navigate, and features a convenient search function that enhances search requests and makes it easier to search for documents and pages on the site.

The www.leopoldina.org homepage has also been thoroughly redesigned. Thanks to its clear listing of news stories, events and publications, visitors to the site can quickly gain an overview of all the Academy’s current activities. A new feature on the homepage is the Member in Focus that presents individual members of the Academy and their research interests in keeping with current events, featuring, for example, a member who has just won an award or achieved recognition in some other form.

The new website provides quick access to the Leopoldina’s key topics in the areas of Policy Advice and International Issues. It also has a multimedia area and an interactive timeline, which gives a clear and visually appealing overview of the Academy’s history since 1652. The website also features a world map where users can find out more about the Leopoldina’s international partners and about its activities around the world. All of the Leopoldina’s publications, from the results of scientific symposiums to statements on specific policy issues, are grouped in one section of the website and can be easily searched according to theme and category.

The Press Section has also been completely redesigned. Alongside press releases and the newsletter, media representatives can find news items and access a special download area where they can quickly and easily download brochures, information, and print-quality press photographs on important themes and persons.

The website was realised within ten month. It is largely designed to meet accessibility criteria, and is available in both German and English.
