More Years, More Life

After three years of work, on March 26, 2009, the academy group “Ageing in Germany”, handed over its recommendations to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler. The project was initiated by the German National Academy of Sciences – Leopoldina and carried out in cooperation with the National Academy of Science and Engineering acatech. It was so far the biggest interdisciplinary research project in Germany concerning the “ageing society”.

During eight conferences 23 researchers discussed the challenges and opportunities of demographic change. The results were documented in eight volumes. The researchers came to the conclusion that welfare and prosperity in society can be maintained by actively taking up the dynamics of demographic changes.

The eight volumes and the recommendations “More Years, More Life” are available in bookshops. More information related to the different books and the project can be found on www.altern-in-deutschland.de.
