Jules Hoffmann on 10 Years National Academy

Jules Hoffmann on 10 Years National Academy

“Many of the pressing issues of our times can only be surmounted if scientific excellence is internationally networked. This is where the Leopoldina as the German National Academy does outstanding work within the network of European Academies and beyond. I have watched the Leopoldina´s impressive development on the road to becoming the National Academy with great joy and appreciation. It utilizes the expertise of its members to tirelessly pursue the goal of assuring that scientific knowledge will play a key role in the shaping of society's future.”

Prof. Dr. Jules A. Hoffmann

Nobel laureate, Professor at the Strasbourg University Institute for Advanced Study, member of the Leopoldina and former president of the French Academy of Sciences

Jules A. Hoffmann has been a member of the Leopoldina since 1988 and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology in 2011. The biologist was able to fundamentally change the understanding of the immune system with his research. Hoffmann has maintained a long-standing and committed relationship with the Leopoldina and, as President of the French Academy of Sciences, further deepened the close partnership between the two academies.
