Alfons Labisch is historian, social scientist, and physician. His main interest is the interrelation of medicine and society via the notion and definition of health.
Besides his "Homo Hygienicus" (1992) his publications cover the social history and the financing of hospitals in Germany , the history of public health, the problem of science and practice in medicine and the problem of history as experience and history as science in medicine. His recent research focuses on the history of malaria, the culture of human mobility, and the institutional configuration and the social effects of modern medicine in an intercultural context.
