In 2011 Marc Remke received the Leopoldina Prize for Junior Scientists.
After a recommendation from the Presidium, the decision in favor of the Leopoldina Prize for Junior Scientists was passed by the Senat and first conferred in 1993. Until 2007, the €1.000 prize money was funded through interest generated from a donation from former member and Cothenius Medal winner Karl Lohmann (Berlin). Starting in 2009, the sum was raised to €2.000. Supported by the Leopoldina Academy Circle of Friends, since 2015 the award is endowed with €5.000 and conferred to two scientists.
This award is presented every other year to researchers under the age of 30, who have produced exceptional scientific work in one of the fields represented by the Leopoldina. The circle of candidate selection is supranationa.
